M3A3 STUART

This site is dedicated to the radial engined M3A3 Stuart Tank produced by American Car and Foundry during Sept 1942 till Sept 1943. Of 3427 produced, 2433 went to the Allies receiving Lease Lend (mainly to Britain but some to China), the rest to the US Army. Powered by a 7cylinder Coninental radial power unit, the tank weighs 32,400lbs ready to fight. Unlike it's successor, the more common M5A1 (with more economic twin V8 Cadillacs and hydromatic transmission) fuel consumption is about I gallon per mile. A few were built with Guiberson Radial diesel engines(- unfortunately it seems only a few examples of this engine survives) Although the Stuart series of tanks are the most popular and practical WWII tank to own and restore, with probably about 100 examples of the series in collectors hands, there is only one operational M3A3 in private hands outside the USA.

The M3A3 above is owned by UK collectors Paul Zambinski and Nigel Hay. It took part in the 1995 "Tribute and Promise" event to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the end of World War II. The tank,with an M5A1 Stuart and 160 other WWII vehicles, took part in a parade past Buckingham Palace behind over 10,000 marching veterans who took the salute from Her majesty Queen Elizabeth. This was the first time since the victory parade in 1945 that tanks had driven down the red tarmac of The Mall.
It was a day we will never forget- nor will the 500,000 people who lined the route in a heatwave to honour these brave people who made such sacrifices to win the freedom that we all enjoy today . A wartime Lancaster bomber flew overhead, dropping over a million poppies on this awe inspiring procession.

Not content with just a Stuart tank, we also own a fully restored (from chassis up) 1943 White M16 Multiple Gun Carriage Halftrack, and a 1941 Harley Davidson WLA.

"Somewhere in Normandy" exactly 50 years on, the M16 keeps a watching brief on the skys inland from Omaha Beach.
